“PERIHELION” is the title of the novel by Claudia Gray, coming out 30 July 2024, and continuing Mulder & Scully’s story from where season 11 ended — Chris Carter has read and approved this, as teased a handful of times already in 2022 and 2023. The XF office reopens, romance and paranormal serial killers, Scully is pregnant, a new Syndicate is afoot, the story never ends! I am going to suppose that this is a first novel of many, as long as they sell. Don’t much know what to think of this. TXF was such a visual show and an all-text continuation is a difficult sell. There is a thirst for more TXF out there, i.e. a market, and Gray is known for writing novels for another ever-expanding franchise, Star Wars. Like the Joe Harris seasons 10-11 comics, it’s a ‘canon’ continuation of the show until any live action project might supersede it (if that ever happens). I am curious but hardly convinced that this will ignite some spark in me for wanting more.
Title note: perihelion means the moment in a planet’s orbit around the sun when it’s closest to the sun. Official synopsis:
“The Truth Is Out There . . . But So Are Lies.
#1 New York Times best-selling author Claudia Gray extends the story of The X-Files beyond its eleventh season in this thrilling—and romantic—original novel.
Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are still reeling from the death of their son William, but cautiously joyous about Scully’s unexpected pregnancy. Determined to raise this child together, Mulder and Scully struggle to find meaning away from the X-Files as they navigate the uncertain waters of their relationship. Then the FBI asks for their help tracking down two mysterious serial killers: one who seems to be able to control electricity, and another who disappears from the scene of the crime in what witnesses describe as a puff of smoke. It’s enough for the Bureau to re-open the X-Files—if Mulder and Scully are willing.
They reluctantly agree, cautious about what it might mean for them and their unborn child but determined to find justice for the killers’ victims. But their return to the X-Files sparks the interest of a shadowy cabal, the heirs to the now-dead Syndicate, and Mulder and Scully soon discover that their investigation is connected to a worldwide threat on an unprecedented scale . . . one with their own future at its heart.”
Some season 1-2 behind the scenes photos from prop master Ken Hawryliw! Can’t place them all, but there’s at least “Ice” and “Space” there. Possibly “The Erlenmeyer Flask”, “Sleepless”, “Fresh Bones”?
Listen to these two podcasts featuring Julie Ng, an alumnus of Glen Morgan’s and the producer of all the behind the scenes content for the two revival seasons — lots of great little info on the making of the fan-favourite and light-hearted “This”. Confirmation that plenty of dirty and kinky lines were ad-libs on the spot by the two lead actors, which reinforces the impression that in this episode we are seeing more Duchovny & Anderson rather than Mulder & Scully per se. I didn’t know the Ramones’ “California Sun” was a cover — another R&B classic stolen by a rock band!
[FRENCH] The X-Files podcast, suite. Les désaccords commencent ! La saison 6 c’est la saison du renouveau créatif et de la rupture avec le format sombre et investigation des saisons classiques. Donc on peu aimer ou pas.
30 years ago, on September 17, 1993, this aired and became one of the most iconic and memorable images of The X-Files. Yes, there was new stuff *every week*, imagine that!
